Temperate climate
soil is loose and ready
to cultivate
arugula radicchio
celery cabbage kale
chard favas beets
made it through
kept warm under snowfall
now start to grow
nibbled by rabbit and slugs
buds swell on the fig
red of rhubarb emerges
cold brewed
______________
dVerse prompt to write a quadrille and use the nibble word.
I like the title and imagery in this poem. I feel for the gardener looking forward to enjoying this harvest when it’s already been sampled by the rabbits

I, too, like the title and the imagery of the various items that can be planted in cold soil. Cheers.

Love the way the title and ending frame the poem. So much hopefulness exudes from this quadrille as nature still thrives under the cold and snow. Not much of that where I am, but it seems my kale has a mind of it’s own.

I am gambling that winter is over here in the Pacific Northwest. Planted pea and spinach seeds yesterday. The soil feels great.
