In Robert Bly’s Hometown

remember the sound of your voice

reading my poem to the class

here something happens

poetry is making something happen

don’t be content with just words

make them leap off the page

dVerse prompt to write about or to a favorite poet. I visited Madison, Minnesota a few weeks ago and went to the little house where Robert Bly wrote and it contains much of his library.

Joywriting

Words move over the page

back and forth

no reason or destination

hoping to see a site

pick up friends

trying not to be seen

don’t honk the horn

when you’re done

just ditch it

Joywriting is a chapter in Susan G. Woodbridge’s Poemcrazy: Freeing Your Life With Words, a NaPoWriMo prompt for Day 18.

Joyriding is a term used for car theft that involves just driving around until it runs out of gas.

Joywriting

Then and Now

Danaides

condemned to severe punishment in hell

compelled to fill with water

a vessel full of holes

water runs out as soon as poured in

their labor was infinite

punishment eternal

Sisyphus

tried to cheat death

carries a perpetual boulder

up the hill to see it roll back down again

Now the multiverse

peering into the unseen

universe beyond universe

endless explanations

Then and Now

Bound

“The clear vowels rise like balloons.” Sylvia Plath

Deeper are the diphthongs

So bound

Neither the o or the u can rise

In their own sound

dVerse prompt taking the end of a poem (in this case Plath’s last line of her poem Morning Song) and using it to make a beginning. My mind went to diphthongs and how the vowels no longer make their own sound. Sylvia Plath was such a great writer but so bound. This poem makes me want to cry.
