On the Way to Jerusalem

When it was time to travel again
a rich man came to Jesus
& wanted to know what he could do
to have eternal life—
sell everything
give it to the poor &
come with me
Jesus said
but the man was very rich & could not
so he went on his way
& Jesus led the way towards Jerusalem
with the disciples being amazed
as well as afraid
so He took them aside
to tell them again what would happen—
how he would be betrayed
condemned mocked scourged
spit on & killed
on the third day He would rise again

On the Way to Jerusalem

On the Road to Capernum

After Jesus healed the epileptic boy

He & the disciples

traveled through Galilee

going back to Capernum

but on a different road

& when they were settled

in a house there

Jesus asked them what they

had been arguing about

& since they had been

proclaiming which of them

was the greatest

they were embarrassed

& were afraid to ask Him

what it meant that He would die

& be raised in three days

which He had spoken of on the road

because He wanted them to know

what would happen

in Jerusalem

On the Road to Capernum

Need for Prayer

Jesus walked down

from the mountain

& a crowd had gathered

waiting for his return—

here a man pleaded

for healing of his epileptic son

(the disciples who had stayed

could not heal him)

Jesus thought them all faithless

& called the demon out of the boy

who convulsed violently

& was finally rid of that spirit

The disciples questioned Jesus

why they had failed

& Jesus told them

that prayer and fasting was required

Need for Prayer

Fill the Day

Fill the day

with discernment

new language

& the Spirit

create a spa

for the mind

& the skin

purification

of the pores

& receptors

of the brain

take in the sun rays

& maniacal rains

stand under heavens

& weepingly smile

My God

This is the house where Mother Teresa’s mother

and sister lived during Communism

Mother Teresa was not allowed into the country

they said she was a spy

When Communism fall in Albania

Mother Teresa returned

put flowers of forgiveness on the grave

of the dictator and then went to her mother’s grave

When her mother was living

people would have coffee with her

they could not talk about God

there was no God in Albania

Bird Behavior

It is springtime. I have returned home from half year spent travelling. It is time to reclaim the house from the woodland creatures. A flicker comes every morning and drills at my corner of the building. Deer are in the garden. The robin comes as sure as Solomon’s Seal and pecks at my window.

This robin sits on the sill, its head turned and one eye gazing in. All he can see is himself in the glass. He sees himself as.a reflection of another bird. Threatened somehow by its own glass-image, it pecks the vision, flies up, flies in and pecks again. What does that bird hold inside itself that is so tormenting that it repeats this over and over again?

Sometimes that robin scares me. I’ll be calming reading, entrenched in words and bam. The bird flies into the window again. Makes me jump, startled, annoyed. How can it be so tormented. To be so tormented by yourself that you rise up and keep hitting the hard cold reality of a window.
