Stoop and Conquer

In spring and summer most of my time is used in the garden

at times I think I have too much garden

Picking and plucking along the ground

weeds are like words in my garden

Time to share with hummingbirds and bees

who bury themselves in plants of the garden

Slugs don’t stand a chance if they climb through my fence

I will murder them if they enter green garden

I could buy a bag of peppers from the grocery store

would rather I harvest from plants in the garden

Joy of seeing a chipmunk or black-capped chickadee

as they pick out seeds from the garden

Now I know why my beans didn’t grow

because of that mole in my garden

Stoop and Conquer

Breath of Life

With each new day You breathe into me
In my deepest sleep You breathe into me

Lack of You all my cells diminish
Joyful celebration You breathe into me

I will no longer take Your breath ungracious
These breaths are not my own You breathe into me

Become aware of this divine connection
My body is Your Temple You breathe into me

Fill this temple with Your presence
Alpha to omega You breathe into me

Breath of Life

Coffee Ghazal

Struggle to find a word worth repeating   coffee

Drink it from my favorite cup   coffee

It was once an undiscovered bean

Finds honor now in our daily routine   coffee

Explorer John Smith after drinking with Turks

Drank in the captain’s galley  from a demi cup   coffee

When the Europeans brought it to US

Some said yuk give me tea not   coffee

Others celebrated and wanted the brew

Roasted bean over a hot skillet fire   coffee

People sought out the beverage

with spices liqueurs and assemblage   coffee

Boston’s The Green Dragon served it too

out of that house a revolution brewed   coffee

Look at what 400 years can do

Wordshophop ghazal is through   coffee
