Spring Thaw

I was snowed in for days

kept the fire going in the woodstove

plenty of food in the pantry

wind picked up the drifts

moved them to fencing

all the while I fed logs

into the crackling fire

waiting for the thaw

dVerse prompt to write a narrative. I am traveling in North Dakota and imagining what it would be like here in winter.

  1. The sense you have created here is so cosy but at the same time claustrophobic. I experienced this on a milder scale last winter in Northern Slovenia. At first the snow was magical, but in the end I just wanted to escape!

  2. Beverly Crawford says:

Most snows are like that … at first a source for amazement at the beauty, then slowly total disenchantment!
