« I had never been so close to grass before. It towered above me and all around me, each blade tattooed with tiger-skins of sunlight. It was knife-edge, dark and wicked green, thick as a forest and alive with grasshoppers that chirped and chattered, and leapt through the air like monkies.» Laurie Lee
thick the grass will grow
wicked green as a forest
where grasshoppers leap

dVerse prompt to change Laurie Lee prose to poetry #3
thanks for joining with the prompt – was hard to choose from Lee’s prose and so you solved it! This my favourite of the 4 haikus –
“wicked green as a forest” – great adjective and aptly transposes the small world into the macrocosm of a forest in the leap of a grasshopper!

Thanks so much for introducing me to the words of Laurie Lee. Those were his words exactly. Wish I had put them together.
