Fly Away Home

Harvest comes later this year

combines in the field

separate soybeans from chaff

thrash the corn

aphids go down with the stalk

imported Japanese beetles

ladybugs and Asian lady beetles

(hard to tell the difference)

fly away home

try to survive the long winter

  1. I love the title – I still say the rhyme when I see ladybirds in the garden – and what colourful beetles they are in the image! I like the way you have packed your poem with harvest activity:
    ‘separate soybeans from chaff
    thrash the corn
aphids go down with the stalk’.
I think it’s sad when then insects all disappear for the winter – except, of course, spiders that like to join us indoors!
