    1. The native prairie grasses were replaced by corn and soybean in Iowa and Illinois, wheat in Kansas, etc. The native grasses extended down to Texas. The grasses are making a comeback as farmers are planting some for conservation, erosion control. There are some areas now with hundreds of acres in prairie grass.
