Of all the hotels in London
Edward Lear Hotel was a fun one
Many verses immense
On the walls with nonsense
Now it’s Zetter Townhouse Marylebone

And the prices have quadrupled and then some
Mourning the lose of Edward Lear Hotel with a limerick prompted by dVerse
Oh, wish I knew the history there so that this fun limerick meant more to me.

Edward Lear (a master of limerick and poet of the owl and the pussy cat) Hotel was on Seymour St near Marble Arch. It claimed to be the residence of Lear and his poetry was on the walls. The rates were sixty pound. Now it is permanently closed, remodeled and about 344 pound. So sad.

I stayed there in 1999 and I think it closed in 2008.
